How to Check Construction Material Quality — A Homeowner's Guide

Your home is only as strong as the materials used. Here's how to verify quality at every stage — without being a civil engineer.

TMT Steel

Always insist on Fe 500D or Fe 550D grade. Check IS 1786 marking. Genuine TMT has consistent rib patterns and bends without cracking.

Cement

Use 53-grade OPC or PPC from Ultratech, ACC, or Ambuja. Check manufacture date — cement older than 3 months loses strength. Lumpy cement has absorbed moisture.

Sand and Aggregates

River sand or M-sand should be clean, free of clay, consistent grain size. Aggregates should be hard, angular, and dust-free.

Floor Tiles

Check Grade 1 quality, water absorption under 3%, PEI hardness rating. Knock two tiles together — clear ring = good quality.

Electrical Fittings

Use ISI-marked wires (Havells, Finolex, Polycab). All MCBs and circuit breakers should be from certified brands.

At Crystal Civiltech

We use verified branded materials at every stage and maintain purchase records that clients can audit at any time.
